Vase designed by Cuno Fischer for Rosenthal, Studio Linie, 20th century – Germany. This extraordinary vase was designed by Cuno Fischer (1914–1973) for Rosenthal Studio Linie. It features a simple structure with an elegant silhouette that widens slightly towards the top; this shape is associated with the industrial design of the post-war period in Europe. Entirely white, it features a representation of a sort of harlequin riding a horse, accompanied by a rooster. These highly stylized figures are created using delicate and highly detailed linear drawings, colored with complex decorative patterns. This monochromatic design accentuates contrast and allows the graphic details to take center stage. It also shows influence from the Avant-garde (harlequin) and Surrealism. Studio Linie was an innovative initiative launched by Rosenthal in the 1950s to bring contemporary and artistic design to the public in the context of functional and decorative objects.
