This very rare modular sideboard with an integrated desk top, from the well-known Varia-150 (or Renz-Varia) furniture range, was designed by the architect and designer Rex Raab and manufactured in Germany in the 1950s by Wilhelm Renz KG. This range was characterised by the fact that the cabinet elements, such as the left-hand drawer unit and the right-hand cupboard section, could be flexibly combined or extended. Typical features of Rex Raab’s designs in this range include the corpus made of fine, warm teak, the distinctive, milled organic recessed handles on the drawers, and the elegant, tapered and slightly flared solid wood legs.
