Heavy, imposing vase by the Italian designers Antonio and Guido Bon. They worked for Val Saint-Lambert in the 1950s.
These designers are known for their heavy, designer vases. As is often the case, this vase is unsigned.
In 1826, the Val-Saint-Lambert crystal factory began on the site of the former Cistercian Abbey of Saint-Lambert in Seraing. François Kemlin and Auguste Lelièvre were in charge. Thanks to its favorable location near the Meuse River, a coal-rich area, and the railway, the factory quickly grew into a major center for the Belgian glass industry. In the nineteenth century, the land surrounding the abbey was dotted with workers' houses, gardens, a shop, a school, and a hospital.
Val-Saint-Lambert remains internationally renowned as a glassware manufacturer. In the 1980s, the factory was on the verge of bankruptcy, and part of its shares were acquired by the government. Even today, Val-Saint-Lambert continues to produce according to traditional methods. The company is a purveyor to the Belgian Royal Family and collaborates with various designers. Characteristic are objects made of double-colored and cut crystal.
