It is with a heavy heart that I offer this beautiful, authentic Breton Wedding Buffet (Buffet/Armoire de Mariage) from the mid-19th century. An absolute eye-catcher for the connoisseur of craftsmanship and historic antiques.
The back can also be fully opened with a door. This allows the cabinet to be placed perfectly free-standing in the room and used as a characterful room divider. A rare feature for a piece of furniture from this period!
The cabinet tells its own story through the impressive, hand-carved oak.
Dated 1846: The year is subtly and originally carved into the front panel.
Rich Celtic-Breton Symbolism: Featuring a beautifully carved Arbre de vie (tree of life) and a stylized spinning wheel, which traditionally symbolized a fruitful and prosperous marriage. Authentic details: On the inside of the door, there is a unique, hand-carved inscription by the original couple (Y·M·LOSSONARN), located directly below the openwork rosette (the iconic Breton ventilation wheel that provided air circulation at the time).
Condition and construction: The piece of furniture is in solid, characterful condition with the original, robust wooden shelves. I have treated it against woodworm to ensure it will last for a long time! To ensure the heavy front doors continue to swing smoothly and stably in the future, a professionally crafted brass piano hinge was installed in the past.
