RARE “UMBRELLA” TABLE LAMP BY HARCO LOOR – DUTCH POSTMODERN DESIGN (1980s)
This striking table lamp, known as the “Umbrella,” was designed by Harco Loor in the 1980s and is a bold example of Dutch postmodern minimalism. With its clean geometric lines and high-quality materials, the lamp embodies the confident and playful design language of the era, making it a standout piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The design features a large square white plastic shade, suspended by four metal pins anchored into a thick acrylic base plate. One of the lamp’s most distinctive features is the set of four pointed tips atop the shade—elements that are often lost or damaged in other examples but are fully intact and in beautiful condition here.
A twisted electrical cable runs visibly from the base to the top, introducing a playful contrast to the otherwise strict geometric composition. This thoughtful detail brings a subtle sense of movement and personality to the lamp’s otherwise minimal design.
This rare and sculptural lamp remains a highly desirable piece of 1980s design history. A true statement object that effortlessly combines form, function, and postmodern flair.
In very good vintage condition, with only light surface scratches consistent with age.
