Rare vintage two-seater sofa model ‘BZ28’, designed by Gerd Lange and produced by ’t Spectrum in the 1970s. While ’t Spectrum is primarily known for its sleek, minimalist design philosophy (such as in the designs of Martin Visser), this model represents an interesting example of an experimental foray outside that recognizable design language.
This particular piece originates from Rotterdam and, upon arrival, still featured the original green velvet upholstery. Unfortunately, it was damaged and the foam underneath had partially deteriorated.
Therefore, this sofa has been fully restored in our workshop. The old upholstery and filling were removed, after which the seat and back were reconstructed using new foam for optimal comfort. Subsequently, the sofa was reupholstered in a high-quality green velvet fabric that is virtually identical to the original in color and appearance. As a result, the authenticity of the design is fully preserved, while the seating comfort once again meets modern expectations.
What makes this model so special is the striking combination of materials. The generous, soft cushions contrast beautifully with the cream-colored plastic side panels. Additionally, the subtle stainless steel details and the overall design add a playful character. The result is a design that looks both futuristic and inviting; a typical example of Space Age design. The plastic panels have two small tears and a small chip; this is purely cosmetic.
A distinctive design that is not only comfortable to sit in but also immediately catches the eye. Exactly the kind of furniture that adds flair to an interior and demonstrates just how progressive Dutch design could be in the 1970s. In short: a rare and unique design that effortlessly forms the centerpiece of an interior.
