This unique design piece by Ghanaian artist Fomtomfrom was crafted in 2022 from a single, solid piece of mahogany. The object transcends its functional form and manifests as a sculpture: a meeting of nature and human craftsmanship.
In the making process, the artist deliberately chose to follow the natural lines and grain of the wood, rather than conceal them. The result is a table that embodies the vitality and soul of the material. On the right side, an intriguing figure emerges, reminiscent of a bird's head, complete with a distinctive beak. This organic detail gives the work a mythical dimension, as if the tree itself has been given a voice in the final result.
The process, from the felling and rough shaping of the trunk to the final, refined polish, was entirely captured on film. This documentation visualizes the wood's journey and emphasizes the artist's care, dedication, and authenticity.
