The Thonet 209 armchair is an iconic design that embodies the essence of bent wood. This masterpiece by the Thonet brothers, originally designed around 1900, is known for its elegant, sculptural form in which the backrest and armrests are bent from a single piece of solid beech wood.
This specific chair is crafted from light beech wood and features a classic seat made of woven cane (webbing). The construction showcases the craftsmanship of wood bending, a technique that Thonet perfected. The chair bears the original Thonet label, confirming its authenticity and provenance. The light wood color combined with the natural cane gives the chair a timeless and organic appearance.
The chair is in very good condition, with structural integrity and the cane seat remaining intact. The wood displays a light, natural patina befitting the age and careful use of the piece.
