Arts, Th.J. Arts, Theodorus Arts, Dorus Arts was born May 25, 1901 in Hernen and died April 8, 1961 in Montreal. Education: largely self-taught, Department of Drawing at the Craft School in Nijmegen 1916, M.O. drawing course with Van Hooijdonk in Nijmegen, learned etching from Jan van Vucht-Thijssen who lived in Neerbosch (according to other sources from his later bosom friend Antoon Heijmans); lessons from the painters Jurres and Koos Stikvoort (ca. 1915?) He was someone who was often weighed down by the endless worries for his family in the time of crisis and war. In his Nijmegen period he was always seeking recognition as an artist." (in: Dorus Arts / 1999) Theodorus Johannes Arts was born on May 25, 1901 in Bergharen (Gelderland). Lived and worked in Nijmegen until 1939, Groesbeek 1939-1955, left May 18, 1955 for Canada. Painter and draughtsman of landscapes in the Hague School style. Taught J.Schouten and P.H.A.Vermeulen.
