An original Nomos by the Italian company Tecno, marked with the cast Tecno logo in the frame.
Norman Foster designed the Nomos in 1986, originally for use in his own architectural firm in London. The base is set up like a skeleton: a central spine from which articulated arms protrude, supported by legs that are bent in two and rest on round base plates. Foster himself called it zoomorphic. It looks more like the construction of an animal than a piece of furniture.
That is not a stylistic choice, but a technique. Because the weight is distributed via those arms, there is no need for a heavy frame under the tabletop anywhere. The 15 mm glass rests loosely on black rubber supports and therefore appears to float. From above, you look straight through the table at the construction underneath. One of the few tables where the base is the most interesting part. The design won the Compasso d'Oro, the most important Italian design award, in 1987 and has since been regarded as one of the most recognizable pieces of furniture in international design. The legs are height-adjustable.
Suitable as a dining table, executive desk, or conference table. In any role, it is a table that does not take up space.
Condition: The base is in very good condition. There is one chip in the glass on the short side and two small chips on the long side (see the detail photos). Otherwise, the tabletop is intact.
The new price for this version is between €3,500 and €4,000. SPECIFICATIONS
