Product description
A Danish sideboard from the 1960s, veneered in teak, with distinctly horizontal proportions and a light silhouette resting on four slender legs. The piece combines enclosed storage with an open illuminated section, creating an unusual fusion of practical function and decorative appeal.
The construction is based on a rectangular body set upon four painted solid wood legs in black. Sliding doors with characteristic recessed handles travel along the full width of the cabinet, revealing or concealing different sections as needed. The central part remains open and features internal lighting, its warm glow filtering through a perforated element in the back panel. The contrast between the brown teak veneer and the black legs emphasises the lightness of the overall form.
Danish furniture design in the 1960s sought solutions that combined minimalist form with everyday practicality. Low sideboards of this type emerged as a response to changing interiors — increasingly compact living spaces demanded furniture that would not dominate a room while still providing storage for audio equipment, books, or everyday objects. Teak veneer was the material of choice for both aesthetic and economic reasons, allowing manufacturers to maintain a refined appearance at lower production costs.
The shallow depth makes this piece suitable as a television stand, a hallway console, or a space-organising element in a living room. The open illuminated section lends itself to displaying selected objects, while the closed spaces behind the sliding doors keep other items out of sight.
The sideboard is in good condition, with traces of use typical for pieces from this period. The veneer surface shows minor scratches and small chips, while slight losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
