Bauhaus influences! These three beautiful tea towels (new, never used!) show that the Dutch designer Kitty van der Mijll Dekker (1908-2004) thoroughly understood the weaving techniques of damask patterns and gave them a new, modern twist.
She was an innovative and influential Dutch textile artist who modernized the tea towel in the Netherlands, among other things. The geometric shapes, the weaving technique (and the colors) distinguished her work from the household textiles prevalent at the time. She also designed rugs and wall coverings. She studied at the weaving department of the Bauhaus in Dessau. From 1935, Van der Mijll Dekker was a designer at the E.J.F. van Dissel en Zonen linen weaving mills in Eindhoven and had her own studio in Nunspeet, in the Wipstrik. She received several important awards. Her work can be found in major collections such as the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Textielmuseum in Tilburg. On one of the cloths is a sticker, probably from the 1960s, with the text: 'pure linen, this brand is your guarantee'. So they are 100% linen cloths. One cloth has a simple hanging loop, the other two have a loop with the text: Duramast colourfast Felisol. Set of 3.
