For sale: Taraxacum 88 S2 pendant light, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for the Milanese company Flos, 1988. Flos marking visible. Functional wiring.
A masterful reinterpretation of the original 1960s Taraxacum, the 88 model displays its bulbs like dandelion seeds ready to take flight, a total transparency intended by the Castiglioni brothers as an aesthetic statement. Its structure is composed of 20 stamped, polished aluminum triangles assembled into a perfect icosahedron, housing 120 E27 Globolux bulbs in a luminous constellation.
When lit, the piece transforms into an artificial sun of absolute warmth and presence. When unlit, it remains a striking architectural sculpture. A nine-time recipient of the Compasso d'Oro, Achille Castiglioni is one of the most influential figures in 20th-century design. The Taraxacum 88 is part of the permanent collections of the MoMA in New York and the Milan Triennale.
The aluminum triangles are intact, with a few discreet micro-pits and slight signs of wear consistent with the piece's age. Bulbs not included.
