Unique and spectacular work by the renowned artist Julián Grau Santos, "master of color of the Spanish 20th century". This is an interesting tapestry print titled "Tendido taurino" (Bullfighting Tendido), depicting a bullfighting scene, very typical of the Spanish tradition. In the foreground are several bullfighters in their bullfighting costumes, and in the background, in the tendidos, a group of women with mantilla and fan, as well as spectators with hats. Both shots are presented with equal relevance and prominence, while creating a powerful contrast between action and contemplation. This underlines the cultural dimension of the event.
He shows bullfighting and the fiesta as a social spectacle, which is very coherent within the general line of his work, especially interested in capturing daily life and its traditions, always with a personal use of color and light.
He also emphasizes the fact that what is important is not the individual portrait, but the chromatic harmony and the artistic expression itself. He does not look for the realistic detail, but for the festive atmosphere and dynamism. The scene is developed through fast and loose movements that reinforce the feeling of bustle. Blue, red and pink tones predominate on an ochre background.

Julián Grau Santos, heir of a family of artists.
Julián Grau Santos is one of the most outstanding painters and illustrators of the national panorama. He was born in Canfranc (province of Huesca) in 1937. Heir to a family tradition, he is the son of the painter Emilio Grau Sala, a significant artist of the School of Paris, and the also extraordinary painter Ángeles Santos, an outstanding member of the group of surrealist painters of the 1920s and of the Sinsombrero.
In 1954 he moved with his family to Barcelona, where he attended the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi. In these early years he was greatly influenced not only by Van Gogh, but also by impressionists and post-impressionists such as Sisley, Cezanne, Renoir, Seurat, Vuillard... whom he discovered during his first visits to Paris, the city where his father lived.
In the 60's he was closely linked to Cuenca, where he lived temporarily. At that time it was in full artistic effervescence, so there he developed many works with strong expressiveness and very material brushstrokes. In 1978 he established his definitive residence in Madrid, where he currently lives, working not only in his painting but also as an illustrator and draftsman, collaborating with several magazines, such as ABC Cultural, La Razón and El Cultural de El Mundo, among others. Since 1980 he has been a member of the Societé Nationale des Beaux Arts.
A painter who does not belong to any artistic movement, he has nevertheless contributed to renewing the artistic panorama of the figurative tradition. He is considered by some as a master of color of the Spanish twentieth century.
He has participated in numerous solo exhibitions throughout his artistic career in various galleries both nationally and internationally as Sala Parés, Biosca Gallery, Galerie Saint Placide (Paris), Grand Palais (Paris), Justin Lester Gallery (Los Angeles), Art Expo (New York). In 1993 the Mapfre Vida Cultural Foundation organized an anthological exhibition.
Since 2004 he has exhibited permanently at the Beatriz Bálgoma Gallery, participating with it in various highly prestigious national and international fairs such as Feriarte, Lisbon Art and Antiques Fair, Salon du Connaisseur...
