For sale: Taccia table lamp, designed by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for the legendary Milanese lighting company Flos, original design from 1962.
The Taccia is one of the most important and celebrated table lamps of the 20th century. Its optical principle is ingenious: a single bulb, placed inside the clear glass shade, projects its light onto an adjustable parabolic reflector made of black anodized aluminum, which then directs it upwards, diffusing it into a soft, enveloping, and indirect light.
The glass shade protects the light source while allowing complete transparency to reveal the internal mechanism—a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and technically sophisticated. Its ample and generous silhouette, its elegantly understated nickel-plated and lacquered metal base, and its generous dimensions make it a piece that is as architectural as it is functional, equally at home in a living room or a sophisticated professional space.
The Taccia lamp is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou, and the Milan Triennale. It was exhibited during the Achille Castiglioni retrospective at the Centre Pompidou in 1985.
Some signs of use are consistent with the age of the piece; the glass bowl is intact, the adjustable reflector is functional, and there is a mark on the lampshade.
