Product description
Table lamp, brass and chrome-plated steel, Willy Rizzo for BD Lumica, 70's - Italy Materials: Brass and chrome-plated steel Designer: Willy Rizzo Firm: BD Lumica Style: Hollywood Regency / Modern Glam Period: 1970s Country of Origin: Italy Functional / Good condition according to age and use Overall Dimensions: 76 x 47.5 x 19.5 cm Body: 49 x 39 x 21 cm Shade: 30.5 x 47.5 x 20 cm Stunning table lamp designed by Willy Rizzo, which reflects a blend of sophistication and architectural style. Luxury and elegance emerge from the geometric shapes and the combination of materials. The structure of the lamp is organized using cubic shapes and straight lines. Its base is solid and architectural, giving it a look inspired by a modular construction. Shiny gold-plated brass frames the brown velvet fabric panels, creating a visual contrast that provides a discreet yet refined touch of luxury. Chrome-plated steel finials at the corners continue the play of contrasting gold and silver. This lamp not only serves as a lighting function, but also represents a perfect example of the combination of aesthetics and utility. An exquisite piece of Italian design. Brand sticker on the switch. Dimmable three-bulb system. BD Lumica and Willy Rizzo BD Lumica was a lighting design firm that operated between the 1960s and 1970s. Although information about this company is scarce, its production was truly prolific. Today, its pieces are highly sought-after among vintage lovers and collectors. They produced all types of lighting, from chandeliers to table lamps to sconces. They may have had a team of designers; however, the only one currently known is Willy Rizzo. Willy Rizzo (1928-2013) was an Italian journalist and designer who actively collaborated with this firm, whose designs reveal a distinct style. The architectural spirit of his pieces, with pure geometric lines and shapes of varying sizes and heights, characterizes Rizzo's work. His fusion of functionalism with luxury was also prominent in his work, following the Bauhaus. He sought to create modern and timeless pieces for traditional interiors. He stood out primarily for his career as a journalist and photographer in Paris, being particularly recognized for his coverage of the Nuremberg trials. In addition, he photographed celebrities such as Coco Chanel, Salvador Dalí, and Marilyn Monroe. His approach to the world of design began in the mid-1960s, when he moved to Rome with his wife. Dissatisfied with the furniture available on the market, he decided to design it himself. Rizzo's modern and innovative style inspired those close to him to commission him to design furniture for their homes. This encouraged the journalist to open his own firm, with offices around the world. Rizzo's career as a designer was truly brief, as in 1978 he decided to sell the company and return to journalism and photography. Despite the brevity of this episode in his life, his pieces have had a tremendous impact on interior design and are now considered true vintage gems. The influence of European modernism can be seen in his pieces, which he combines with the sober forms and clean lines characteristic of the American modern style that prevailed in the mid-century. He was influenced by figures such as Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. Shipping of the product will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination.
