Table lamp, brass and chrome-plated steel, Willy Rizzo for BD Lumica, 70s – Italy. Spectacular table lamp designed by Willy Rizzo for BD Lumica, which reflects a blend of sophistication and architectural style. The lamp's structure is organized using cubic shapes and straight lines of gilded brass, creating a solid base inspired by modular architectural construction. Chrome-plated steel finials create an interesting play of contrasts between gold and silver. It stands out for its elegant height and high-gloss finish, which seems to radiate light even when turned off. This lamp not only serves a lighting function, but also represents a perfect example of the combination of aesthetics and utility. An exquisite piece of Italian design. Signature sticker on the switch. Dimmable three-bulb system. BD Lumica and Willy Rizzo. BD Lumica was a lighting design firm that operated between the 1960s and 1970s. Although information about this company is scarce, its production was truly prolific. Today, its pieces are highly coveted among vintage lovers and collectors. They produced all types of lighting, from chandeliers to table lamps and wall lights. It's possible they had a team of designers, however, the only one currently known is Willy Rizzo. Willy Rizzo (1928-2013) was an Italian journalist and designer who actively collaborated with this firm, in whose designs we can perceive a very distinct style. The architectural sense of the pieces, with pure geometric lines and shapes of different sizes and heights, characterizes Rizzo's work. The fusion of functionalism with luxury, thus following the Bauhaus, was also highly relevant in his work. He sought to create modern and timeless pieces for traditional interiors. He stood out mainly for his journalistic career and as a photographer in Paris, being best known for his coverage of the Nuremberg trials. In addition, he photographed celebrities such as Coco Chanel, Salvador Dalí, and Marilyn Monroe. His first step into the world of design began in the mid-1960s, when he moved to Rome with his wife. Dissatisfied with the furniture available on the market, he decided to design his own. Rizzo's modern and innovative style inspired those close to him to commission him to design furniture for their homes. This encouraged the journalist to open his own firm, with offices around the world. Rizzo's career as a designer was brief, as in 1978 he decided to sell the company and return to journalism and photography. Despite the brevity of this period in his life, his pieces have had a tremendous impact on interior design and are now considered true vintage gems. The influence of European modernism can be seen in his pieces, which he combines with the sober forms and clean lines characteristic of the American modern style that prevailed in the mid-century. He was influenced by figures such as Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier.
