Black Lacquered Modular Coffee Tables on Cylindrical Bases
This rare Sinbad coffee table set was designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina in the late 1980s, a period in which Cassina explored sculptural modular furniture defined by architectural clarity and refined restraint. The design embodies Magistretti’s mature language, where pure geometry, balance and function come together in a quiet yet highly intelligent composition.
The set consists of two semi elliptical tables that together form a complete elliptical surface. Their modular nature allows for multiple configurations. They can be used as one unified coffee table, slightly offset to create a dynamic composition, or placed separately as low side tables. The precise alignment and subtle junction between the two elements underline the technical quality of Cassina’s production from this era.
Executed in black lacquered wood, the tables rest on solid cylindrical legs connected by an understated structural frame. The finish is deep, even and rich, with crisp edges and a subtle sheen that reveals the natural grain beneath the lacquer. The overall impression is architectural, calm and exceptionally well proportioned.
This particular set is in perfect vintage condition and comes from the first owner. There are no damages, restorations or repairs. The tables are fully original and retain their original Cassina markings. The condition is outstanding and increasingly rare to find, especially in a monochrome black finish of this quality.
