Extremely Rare Green Aniline Leather Sofa on a Polished Metal Base
This De Sede DS 31 is an exceptional example of Swiss modernist seating from the late 1970s, distinguished by its extremely rare original green leather upholstery. While the DS 31 is already a far less commonly encountered model within the De Sede collection, this specific color elevates the piece into true collector territory.
The design is defined by its architectural clarity and strong horizontal presence. Broad, flat side panels frame generously proportioned seat and back cushions, creating a balanced contrast between softness and structure. The low profile and disciplined geometry reflect De Sede’s most refined modernist language, while the sculptural metal base adds visual lightness and precision.
Upholstered in original full grain aniline leather, the surface shows a rich and honest patina developed over decades. The deep green tone is saturated and complex, with natural variations and wear patterns that are only possible in untreated leather of the highest quality. Green was available by special order only and was rarely chosen, making surviving examples exceptionally scarce.
Some professional repairs are present on the armrests, consistent with age and long term use. These repairs are visible but respectful to the original material and do not compromise the structure, comfort or overall aesthetic. The sofa remains supple, expressive and visually powerful.
This DS 31 is ideally suited for architectural interiors, Japandi environments or curated modern spaces where authenticity, rarity and material integrity are valued above uniformity.
