West German Pottery: This vase lamp is based on an original Fat Lava ceramic vase by Eduard Bay Keramik from the 1970s. The vase features a foamy Fat Lava glaze with a light, relief-like flowing glaze in the upper part over a bright red smooth glaze in the lower section.
The round shape of the upcycled base is very prominent and clearly proportioned: a spherical body with a slightly indented neck. The strongly contrasting glaze creates the typical three-dimensional effect for which many Fat Lava objects of this period are known.
The vase is in excellent vintage condition – without any flaws.
Conversion to a Lamp
The vase, model number 63 and stamped on the base by the manufacturer Bay, has been converted into a table lamp and is corded: E27 socket up to 120 volts, high-quality black fabric cable with switch, which is routed directly into the socket on the outside. No holes have been drilled into the vase itself. A custom-made plug-in solution was crafted to securely anchor the socket and lampshade within the vase, and the opening was sealed with a brass plate. The vase's collector value remains completely intact.
The lampshade: Dimensions: 30 cm diameter × 30 cm height
Material: Japanese cotton fabric with a dragon motif. The textile pattern features dragons and floral elements in shades of blue, red, and natural tones. The fabric diffuses light softly, creating a calm and warm ambiance. The dragon motif perfectly complements the lava-like texture of the vase.
Lamp dimensions: Vase height: 25 cm, total height with shade: approx. 55 cm, shade diameter: 30 cm, height: 30 cm
This lamp combines classic West German Pottery ceramics with a handcrafted lampshade made of Japanese fabric. It is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
