Product description
Manufacturer: St. Lukas Art Pottery Factory Model: 57 Color code: XII Dimensions: (height) 12.5 x (diameter) 10 cm Weight: 288 grams Origin: Maarssen Material: ceramic Color: turquoise with black borders Period: 1930 Marked: brush signature on the underside Condition: Fair/good condition - used with minimal signs of wear and age - 1 small chip on the top foot ring - wafer-thin hairline crack of approximately 2.5 cm. Maarssen period: During economic hardship, Heijtze and Seinstra sold the factory to investors in 1927 and continued to work there themselves. That same year, the investors moved the factory to Maarssen, located slightly further north. It was established on the Merwede Canal (Westkanaaldijk). Renamed N.V. Kunstaardewerkfabriek St. Lukas Maarssen, large-scale production was started with 27 employees. Quite soon, this necessitated a reduction in the number of employees; by 1930, the number of employees had dropped to 10. The range of pottery models was still expanded on a small scale. After the factory had sold internationally renowned and expensive products during its pre-war heyday, the crisis years saw the production of cheap and simple pottery that was sold only nationally, or perhaps exclusively regionally. In 1933, it went into final bankruptcy. Heijtze would subsequently continue to manufacture pottery at the factory under the name De Merwede. This is a ceramic vase from the Kunstaardewerkfabriek St. Lukas in Maarssen, produced in the 1930s. It is model 57, a recognizable design that illustrates the transitional period of Dutch ceramic art. The vase is made of ceramic and finished with a striking green glaze. The neck is accentuated by three horizontal black lines, offering a subtle geometric contrast. The underside is marked '57 XII' and 'Made in Holland', confirming the provenance and model number. The bulbous shape and narrow neck are characteristic of the design language of that era. The object is in good condition commensurate with its age and use. The glaze has retained its luster and the original markings are clearly legible. This vase comes into its own in an interior with Art Deco or vintage influences. It is an understated decorative object that adds a historical context whether on a sideboard or in a display cabinet. When shipped, the item is carefully packed to prevent damage. I ship in recycled and eco-friendly boxes.
