Origin: France
Dating: Late 18th - early 19th century
Description: An antique small farmhouse table (likely used as a desk) in solid oak, Directoire period. It has a beautiful period patina, which we have chosen not to alter, except for the tabletop, which has been waxed. Numerous signs of wear consistent with its age add to its charm. The drawer has a ring-shaped handle. The handle bears witness to its past with a palimpsest of ink stains. The legs are tapered, and the tabletop is made of assembled planks, somewhat rough in appearance (some are slightly loose). The rear left leg has a crack where it was joined, which has been stabilized and filled with wax. The piece is solid and rustic. Its simplicity and modesty are what give it its irresistible appeal.
