The company was founded in 1947 by Ludwig Spang and was based in Ransbach. Like many other companies, the Spara firm left no paper archives. The production of vases was started in the late 1960s, and the firm ceased to exist in 1985, when it was acquired by 'Hark', a factory that manufactured kilns. The principal designer employed by Spara was Halidan Kutlu in 1971 and 1972, and he was responsible for most of the designs. He also worked at Karlsruhe Majolika. Light-colored clay was used for the production of vases (some older vases are made of orange-red clay). Many vases received the name Spara via the mold, or the name was stamped onto the bottom afterwards. Studio items were produced with the name stamped, and the mold number was applied by hand to the bottom. Not all vases were marked with the name Spara.
