Product description
I bought this item from a Belgian second-hand dealer, who collected it after the death of his 90-year-old neighbor of Italian origin, who lived in the Charleroi region. If their honeymoon destination was Sorrento, the young couple bought this pretty little table as a souvenir, easily transportable because the legs unscrew and remove. It weighs 2 kg. The wife used it to store her jewelry or other small items such as sewing accessories. This table was also bought by tourists visiting the Amalfi Coast. It is very distinctive and renowned for its refined marquetry with fine inlay techniques called "intarsia" and its built-in musical mechanism playing the melody "Torna a Surriento "Come Back to Sorrento". It features clog-style feet. The table incorporates a key and spring mechanism which, when the lid is opened, triggers a music box playing a famous tune, usually "Torna a Surriento", a classic and much-loved Italian melody. This antique table retains its original tone and mechanism. A typical model measures 37 cm long, 27 cm wide and 44 cm high. This table is considered a rare collector's item, with a meticulous finish and often accompanied by its original key. Its value depends on its condition, the quality of the marquetry and musical functioning, and its Italian authenticity. I hunt for you beautiful objects of aesthetic, symbolic or rare value. The objects I offer always have a story behind them: family, sentimental, linked to a historical event. I'm Belgian and live between Belgium and Italy, so my nuggets will have either Belgian or Italian origins. My Italian favorites are : - those from Naples, Sorrento with the small inlaid musical side tables, the wooden and musical cigarette box, Capodimonte - Venice, with the Murano and the Venetian statue. - Furniture by mid-20th-century Milanese designer Aldo Tura My Belgian favorites are : - Antique lighting fixtures, with a view to participating in the circular economy - Bequet earthenware from Quaregnon - Mons, because my grandfather came from this region and was a miner there - Objects with a typically Belgian historical or symbolic value

This object has been well preserved. Just a few small scratches on the tabletop, but very discreet.
