The Soriana 3-seater sofa, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, is a defining piece of 1970s Italian design. This iconic silhouette is celebrated for its revolutionary approach to upholstery, where the fabric is gathered and held in place by an external metal armature rather than an internal frame.
in 1970 Soriana was awarded the Compasso d’Oro as a masterpiece of complexity achieved through simple tools.
This is the 2021 model which has the internal padding based on BioFoam® microspheres, a bioplastic of plant origin, it is the result of updating developed by Cassina and Tobia Scarpa as part of the Cassina LAB project to promote wellbeing and sustainable design.
The seat’s comfort is further heightened thanks to a 100% recycled blown fibre padding produced from PET recovered from Plastic Bank.
This specific example features a textile upholstery in Pamir Green, secured by the signature chrome-plated steel frame that defines the Soriana collection. The original Cassina label is present, confirming its authenticity and lineage within the design canon.
This 2021 edition remains in mint condition as it only had one owner who never used it as it was placed in a second home. The upholstery maintains its form, and the chrome framework is in excellent condition It's called a 3-seater but it easily fits 4 people.
