Small antique Japanese tansu document box with upper drawer and lower locking compartment, made of solid wood and dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho period, circa 1880–1920.
This type of small tansu or document box was traditionally used to store personal belongings, official seals, documents or small amounts of money within homes or commercial environments.
The structure features an upper drawer for frequently used objects and a lower compartment with a lock, designed to protect more valuable items or important documents.
