Frantisek Peceny was one of the most important post-war designers working for the Czechoslovak nationalized collective of glassworks known as Sklo Union. These designers aimed to give pressed glass the same design qualities and prestige as hand-blown glass. Peceny's designs were characterized by optical effects and striking surface decoration. The candle wax vase has become one of his most recognizable designs and was first produced in 1974, available in three sizes. It looks particularly alluring as sunlight streams through, illuminating the glass beads.
