Rare XL acrylic / lucite Flamingo by the Brazilian artist Abraham Palatnik (1928-2020).
This piece still features both the original "made in Brazil" sticker and the molded signature (c)Pal. This combination is rare. The flamingo is one of his largest pieces from the 'Birds' collection. HxW = 36 x 26 cm, base = 13 x 8 cm.
In my possession for decades. Occasionally cleaned exclusively with a slightly damp soft cloth. In top condition. The sculpture could be (professionally) polished. However, I love the (very light) patina present on this retro piece.
Palatnik was a Brazilian artist, inventor, and designer. Born in Brazil, he moved to Tel Aviv as a child. He broke through in 1951 during the Sao Paulo Biennial with his 'Aparelho Cinecromatico'. In the 1960s and 70s, Palatnik designed decorative objects and primarily small animal figures in cast acrylic. This flamingo is of a rare large size.
