A pretty terracotta vase decorated with hand-painted roses on a speckled black background. It is signed "JC" and labeled "J. Chalmandier - 7 cours Gambetta - Tarbes" on the reverse. The handwritten inscription "Hollandecor" also appears.
This vase, with its Japanese-inspired lines, comes from a small shop in Tarbes (France) specializing in home goods. In the 1950s and 60s, the shop had a small workshop for decorating pottery, likely imported wholesale from workshops in Vallauris (France) or Spain. The pottery arrived unpainted, while the designs were created by the shop's own decorators (in this case, the owner) using motifs inspired by popular styles of the time, such as Dutch floral designs ("Hollandecor" being the name given to the motif).
This small vase is therefore a relic of a bygone era, a blend of mass production and local craftsmanship.
In good overall condition, it has a few minor paint chips, but nothing that detracts from its appearance.
