Color lithograph by Siet Zuyderland. Chinese Still Life I 1982. Size 65 x 50 cm. Signed by the artist in pencil at upper right, numbered 52/90 at lower left and stamped with studio stamp SZ at lower right. 'Chinese still life' was released as a series in the early 1990s. It depicted Chinese attributes with Chinese (language) characters.
Zuyderland became known in the 70s and 80s with various series about places where normally many people come but in his work no people can be observed. It is alienating, unreal and at the same time there is a stillness in his paintings, drawings and graphics that is appealing and special. Well-known series by his hand are: 'Coney Island' (New-York), 'Subway Stations' worldwide, 'Prison Doors'. Where these were not series his works could be called 'constructivist'. Zuyderland (1942-2019) trained at the Institute of Art Education' in Amsterdam (forerunner of the later Gerrit Rietveld Academy). His work was included in various museum collections such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and found its way into many private and corporate collections worldwide.
