Set of four vintage dining chairs, model SB03, designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe in the 1950s. Braakman had just returned from a study trip to the US, where he visited Charles & Ray Eames and discovered the magic of bent plywood — not just sawn wood, but sculpted into smooth, organic shapes. He brought that knowledge back to the Netherlands, and you can clearly see it in the elegant, curved birch frames of these chairs.
The set has been fully reupholstered in a seriously cool fabric combo: two chairs in a black-white-beige ‘Medina’ fabric by Kvadrat, and the other two in a deep anthracite Kvadrat Remix. All four have new foam in both seat and backrest, so the comfort is exactly how it was meant to be — maybe even better. They’re in outstanding condition, and trust us, sets like this hardly ever surface anymore.
Model SB03 belongs to Pastoe’s famous birch series — the same one known for those iconic loop-legged cabinets. Fun fact: Pastoe’s model numbers are super literal. SB03 = Stoel Berken 03 (Chair Birch 03). Gotta love that no-nonsense Dutch logic. Long story short: this is peak Dutch Design. Almost everything Braakman created is now considered iconic, so here’s your shot at a rare and historically rich dining chair set.
