Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by Wébé in the 1960s. In the original brochure, this model is listed as ‘Kastrup’ and is part of a larger series that includes matching tables, cabinets, and beds.
This set originates from Nijmegen and has remained within the same family since the 1960s. Over the years, the seats have been reupholstered several times; the original cream-colored faux leather eventually emerged from under three layers of upholstery.
The restoration was carried out with great care and respect for the original design. The teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, allowing the natural warmth and deep color of the wood to fully come to the fore again. The seats have been renewed with firm foam and reupholstered in high-quality black leather. This choice gives the set a powerful, luxurious appearance while preserving the character of the design.
The design is characterized by its flowing, rounded lines and well-balanced proportions. The chairs appear airy and refined, yet possess a sturdy construction. The joints and detailing showcase the craftsmanship of Dutch furniture makers from that period: carefully executed, honest in materials, and with an eye for both form and function. On two chairs, previous repairs have been subtly left visible.
Together, the wide backrest and the new foam ensure excellent seating comfort, making it ideal for both a quick cup of coffee in the morning and long and (too) cozy evenings at the dining table. In short: a beautiful example of Dutch craftsmanship, with a touch of elegance from Scandinavian aesthetics.
