Beautiful set of six vintage dining chairs, better known as the ‘Snavel’ model, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the AwA Furniture Factory in the 1960s (marked). This set originates from Belgium and has remained within the same family all these years. Upon arrival at our workshop, the chairs were even still fitted with their original black faux leather upholstery!
For optimal seating comfort, the seats have been rebuilt using sturdy foam and fitted with high-quality black leather. This new upholstery complements the dark teak frames seamlessly and gives the chairs an elegant, timeless look.
The solid teak frames have been carefully cleaned and refinished, allowing the warm color and beautiful grain to come fully into their own again. Characteristic of this model are the organically shaped frames, whose tapering ends are reminiscent of a bird's beak. It is not without reason that this design was given the nickname ‘Snavel’.
The small brass decorative balls on the backrest also deserve attention. They make the backrest appear to float visually and give the design a subtle yet distinctive detail that you won't easily overlook. Typical of Teeffelen!
Despite our careful restoration, some minor signs of use have been retained. They tell the story of the past sixty years and actually give the set extra character. During a previous restoration, work was done on the seat attachments; we have restored this construction to its original state, although traces of that history are still visible. Simply beautiful Dutch design, ready for years of use.
