This set of six Model 101 dining chairs, widely known as the Spaghetti chairs, was designed by Giandomenico Belotti for the Italian manufacturer Alias in the 1980s. As a defining piece of postmodern Italian design, the model is celebrated for its reductive geometry and innovative use of industrial materials, earning it a place in permanent design history.
The construction features a continuous frame of polished chrome steel, providing a visually light yet structurally robust foundation. Both the seat and backrest are tightly woven from transparent PVC cords, a signature technique that gives the chair its colloquial name. Over the decades, the synthetic cording has developed a warm amber patina, adding depth to the original transparent finish. Five of the six chairs retain their original manufacturer stickers, confirming their authenticity and production lineage.
The set remains in highly functional condition, preserving its structural integrity and original material composition. The chrome frames retain their reflective finish, while the PVC cording shows natural aging consistent with its era, reflecting genuine historical character without compromising support.
