-
These 1975 lamps by Japanese-born designer Kazuhide Takahama are made of white synthetic fabric stretched over a metal arch frame.
The fabric is in very good condition and has recently been reupholstered.
-
This set includes all sizes of the Kazuki - lamps - by the renowned Italian lighting company Sirrah.
-
Takahama moved to Italy after designing the Japanese pavilion for the 1953 Milan Triennial. The Kazuki lamps are freestanding versions of Takahama's Saori series, both using stretched fabric, referring to Lucio Fontana's paintings.
-
The lamp adopts the simple profile of the frame. Two arches - one higher and wider, one shorter and thinner - are perpendicular to each other, forming a base at the four points where they touch the ground. The blank fabric covering them is taut. The edges of the frame appear hard until the lamp burns, when the delicate curves become visible. In this way, the Kazuki combines sculptural solidity with a ghostly lightness, bringing a contemporary Japanese sense of abstraction to the vibrant, pop-like Italian design of the period.
