Designed by the French architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, Model 222 is one of the earliest tubular chair designs of the modern movement. The original design dates from the late 1920s; these examples belong to the well-known Italian reissue by Pallucco from the 1980s.
This set consists of three stackable chairs with lacquered steel tubular frames and black faux leather upholstered seats. The design stands out due to the characteristic curved backrest with vertical slats.
Two chairs are finished in deep forest green and one in vibrant cobalt blue, creating a playful postmodern look without compromising the sleek, minimalist design.
The chairs are sturdy, comfortable, and in good vintage condition. The upholstery shows only light signs of wear. The lacquered frames have some minor paint damage and normal signs of age; I suspect that two of them were later repainted in the green color—blue paint is still visible in a few places on the frame. A timeless design that feels effortlessly at home around a dining table, in a studio, office, or architectural interior.
They make a playful addition to a dining table or can serve as striking accent chairs in a creative workspace.
