These two vase lamps were newly constructed from original ceramic vases by Ditmar Urbach, formerly Czechoslovakia/now the Czech Republic.
Ditmar Urbach is one of the most important ceramic manufacturers in Central Europe during the 20th century. The company produced high-quality art and functional ceramics in Teplitz-Schönau (now Teplice, Czech Republic) and was internationally export-oriented. Particularly in the post-war period, Ditmar Urbach became a leading name in modern, expressive ceramics with characteristic glazes.
The vases used here exhibit a typical, minimalist design: an angular yet rounded form with a cream-colored base and dark green, organically flowing drip marks.
The conversion to lamps is carried out with complete care to preserve the original objects:
• no drilling
• no irreversible modifications
• reversible construction with a high-quality brass plate and threaded casing
• the original substance and collector's value of the vase are preserved
The lamp socket is secured inside the vase with a cork and a clip. The vase was weighted with sand for stability. The vase opening is sealed with a high-quality brass plate, the threaded rod has a brass casing, and the socket is black.
Technical Specifications
• E27 socket made of black Bakelite
• CE marked
• Designed for up to 120 volts
• Transparent cable that leads directly into the socket
• Transparent toggle switch / EU plug
As a pair, the lamps create a striking presence – symmetrically placed on a sideboard or console, or as a subtle contrast in modern interiors.
The green patterned cylindrical shades (30 x 25 cm) made of a thicker interior fabric echo the colors of the glaze and produce a warm, soft light.
One of the two vases had a small hairline crack at the top of the opening, which was repaired with gold paint using the Japanese Kintsugi technique. This is not a flaw. One of the two lampshades has two seams due to the fabric cut, which have been concealed with a thin green velvet ribbon. Since the two seams are on the back of the lampshade, they are not visually noticeable.
Height of the vases without the sockets: 23 cm, total height of each lamp: 52 cm
