Product description
Toti Scialoja (1914–1998) was one of the most multifaceted and influential figures in the Italian artistic and cultural scene of the 20th century and is considered one of the leading exponents of Informal Abstraction in Italy. These silkscreens represent the most energetic and international phase of his work, fitting perfectly into a contemporary design context that emphasizes the strength of the line and chromatic contrast. Stunning pair of original silkscreens by SCIALOJA TOTI, signed: "Untitled" (1997), silkscreen, 49.5 x 69.5 cm - "Untitled" (1997), silkscreen, 49.5 x 69.5 cm The master's diptych plays on the contrast between expansion and structure. Left (Vital Explosion): A centrifugal and solar dynamism dominates. The prominent red and the light splashes on a gray background create an ethereal work that illuminates the space with energy and optimism. Right (Material Collision): It has a centripetal and architectural character. Black predominates, creating a deep stratification (the "imprint" technique) that gives the whole a rigor, elegance, and visual stability. In short: the first work lights up the space, the second anchors it with authority. Or rather, the first work "opens" the vision with a rush of adrenaline, while the second "closes" it with a reflection on matter and the dark mark. Together, they create a musical rhythm: a "forte" followed by a "grave". These works, created in his final period of activity, represent Scialoja's artistic testament: the definitive union between the rigor of the imprint technique and the absolute freedom of the abstract gesture. On the front: signature, date, and edition number in pencil (e.g., X/XXX - e.g., 2/99) On the back: stamp of the Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea San Biagio, Matera Provenance: Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea San Biagio, Matera - Private collection, Matera Certificates of Provenance and Authenticity provided by the auction house.
