Henri Gervex was a major French painter and draughtsman of the Belle Époque, a student of Cabanel at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, a friend of Manet and Renoir, and a Commander of the Legion of Honour. His works are held in the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Carnavalet.
