Product description
Salins. The name alone is enough to place this piece in the history of French ceramics. Founded in Franche-Comté, the Salins-les-Bains manufactory produced some of the finest French tableware ceramics of the modern era from the 1950s to the 1980s. Consistently high-quality enameled stoneware, balanced forms, and hand-painted decorations with a freedom of stroke that immediately distinguishes Salins' productions from industrial ceramics of the same period. This coffee set is a beautiful example. The coffee pot, with its round belly and elongated neck, is topped with a spirally turned cork lid. This detail, characteristic of some Salins productions from the 1970s, combines the natural warmth of cork with the material coolness of stoneware. The decoration is hand-painted. Large stylized flowers with dusty pink petals unfold on the off-white stoneware, accompanied by soft-edged grayish-brown leaves. The brushwork is free, almost sketched, yet never neglected. The six cylindrical tumblers feature the same decoration. Their straight and generous shape, slightly granulated glaze, and sober silhouette make them as pleasant to hold as they are to behold. The Salins France mark appears on the underside of the tumblers, in a blue circular stamp. Coffee pot: approximately 20 cm in height with lid. Tumblers: approximately 11 cm in height. Sold as a 7-piece set. The condition is very good, with the discreet traces of antique use visible in the photographs.
