S-RM-004 - Wall Object by L.J. Billion
Created in March 2022, S-RM-0004 is a unique piece (single) by the anonymous Op Art artist L.J. Billion. The object is made of mirrors, blue and transparent Plexiglas, and wood, and measures approximately 59 x 59 x 7.5 cm. It is hand-signed with the characteristic "Billion-B" in the lower right corner, and the back also bears a paper sticker. The condition is very good, with minimal signs of age.
As is characteristic of the artist, reflections, geometric patterns, and color are central to the work. Because L.J. Billion primarily works with reflective materials, one sees not so much the object itself, but rather the reflection of its surroundings—thus, the work never appears the same depending on the time of day, lighting conditions, and viewing angle. Since viewers are reflected in the work, they become part of it, which encourages many to interact with the object through movement. For this reason, the artist describes his art as "passive-kinetic." Another recurring aspect of his work is repetition: what is seen is often a fragment of a larger whole that could potentially continue indefinitely.
The name L.J. Billion is a pseudonym—the artist's true identity is unknown. He frequently appears as a reflection in his own works, but always masked.
