A Ruscha ceramic wall plate (or wall tile) is an iconic collector's item from the heyday of the West German pottery industry (West Germany Keramik). The Ruscha factory (Rudolf Schardt from Rheinbach) was known for its innovative designs and thick, relief-like glazes, better known as the Fat Lava style from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
This wall plate by Ruscha Keramik is a striking example of West German ceramics from the seventies. The design is characterized by an expressive floral motif in relief, reflecting the distinctive 'Flower Power' aesthetic of that decade.
Crafted from terracotta, the plate displays a robust construction with a glazed front. The color combination of deep red, blue, and green on a light background creates a lively contrast. The back reveals the natural texture of the terracotta and features a hanging system, confirming its origin in West Germany.
