Roy Lichtenstein: "Triptychon, As I Opened Fire."
Edition: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam 1964.
Limited edition, 3 offset lithographs.
In excellent condition.
This triptych is inspired by the comic book "All American Men of War."
Together, the three paintings in "As I Opened Fire" tell a story, enhanced by the carefully added text.
This work represents a revolution in the art of the 1960s. Formally, Lichtenstein used images from popular culture. He incorporated them into an artistic context by enlarging them, slightly modifying them and painting them on canvas.
