This elegant duo from Tapio Wirkkala’s sought-after “PLUS” series for Rosenthal Studio-Linie showcases the designer’s mastery of architectural silhouette and chromatic harmony. Rendered in deep blue and saturated green high-gloss glazes, the pair forms a compelling composition of two monumental, flaring forms—each rising from a ribbed, layered base into a broad, dish-like rim.
These vases embody Wirkkala’s fascination with stacked geometries, quiet symmetry, and the interplay of vertical rise and horizontal spread:

About the Designer — Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985)
One of the great polymaths of 20th-century design, Wirkkala shaped the global understanding of Scandinavian modernism. Though celebrated for his glass for Iittala, Wirkkala’s work for Rosenthal is equally significant: here, he explored porcelain as a sculptural medium, carving forms that feel architectural yet organic, industrial yet lyrical.
His Studio-Linie designs often investigate modular construction, radial symmetry, and mathematically precise curves—all of which are beautifully evident in the PLUS series.
Wirkkala’s work appears in the MoMA, V&A, Stedelijk, Cooper Hewitt, and nearly every major design museum. He is a three-time Grand Prix laureate of the Milan Triennale.
