This exceptional roll-top desk is part of Herman Miller's legendary "Action Office" series and was designed in the 1960s as part of a visionary office design concept. Its characteristic feature is the curved roller shutter attachment, made of fine walnut slats, which elegantly arches over the writing surface and, with its closed form, lends the desk an understated, almost sculptural appearance. The body is finished in matte black and rests on a high-quality chrome-plated aluminum base frame, whose Y-shape conveys stability and a certain lightness. The work surface is made of durable, cream-white Formica (melamine coating) and can be complemented by pull-out drawer elements equipped with black plastic trays for stationery and storage compartments. Particularly noteworthy is the modular interior structure with hanging filing compartments – ideal for organizing documents in the classic office environment. The aluminum supports and key mechanism are visible on the sides, emphasizing the technical character of the design. The model bears the Herman Miller label and also features an original key number. The formal vocabulary strongly reflects the design philosophy of George Nelson and Robert Propst, both of whom were involved in the development of the "Action Office" concept. Condition: The desk is in exceptionally good condition with only minimal signs of wear. This desk was delivered to a furniture store as a display piece, which subsequently closed, and the desk was stored in storage for 40 years. Therefore, the desk is virtually new and first-hand. The roll-top works perfectly, the wood surfaces are very well maintained, the metal parts shine without corrosion, and the Formica also shows no significant scratches.
