A chiseled bronze/brass table lamp with a dolphin-shaped base in the French Rococo style, which reached its peak in the 18th century.
The dolphin motif, a symbol of grace and royalty in European decorative art, was particularly prized in Neoclassical and Rococo designs.
These lamps with bases sculpted in the shape of marine animals became popular in the 19th and 20th centuries as decorative reproductions of the French Classical style.
