Product description
This is a high-quality reproduction of the world-famous 'Poppy' table lamp, originally designed around 1910 by Clara Driscoll for Tiffany Studios New York. Characteristic of this specific design is the rim with the detailed, openwork filigree (the dark metal mesh) that lies over the glass to mimic the veins of the leaves and the seed pods.
You can tell from the technical components that this is not an antique American lamp from 1910, but a beautiful, later European quality reproduction.
The brown molded plastic switch and the accompanying molded European plug (type C/F) are typical of the 70s/80s.
The cord is made of brown textile (fabric cord).
This lamp was purchased in Germany between 1970 and 1990. During those decades, there was a massive revival of the Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style, and these types of heavy-quality Tiffany reproductions (with a real glass shade and a heavy, patinated bronze/metal base) were precious and highly sought-after status symbols.
