Rem Koolhaas – Dutch Architect – Coffee Table and Study Book
Language: English
Elements of Architecture examines the building blocks of architecture through individual elements such as windows, facades, balconies, corridors, stairs, escalators, and elevators. Instead of a single linear narrative, the book presents a rich network of origins, influences, and interconnections within architectural evolution. Attention is paid to technological developments, climate adaptation, political and economic contexts, regulations, and digital innovations. According to Koolhaas himself: “Never before has a book been so relevant”—especially now that architecture is undergoing profound changes.
This publication is based on Koolhaas’s acclaimed exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2014). The book is an indispensable reference for understanding the foundations of the built environment worldwide. Designed by Irma Boom and based on research from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the 2,600-page monograph includes essays, interviews, and an exclusive photo essay. The physical appearance is exceptional: a custom-made binding with a split spine, printed on 50g Opakal paper, allowing the design and content to truly shine.
Please note: this is a heavy book (approximately 3.5 kg) and can only be shipped as a parcel. A pencil annotation on the title page has been erased, slightly visible in the paper. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition.
