Condition: Good condition - used with minimal signs of wear and age - 3 imperfections/fleabites on the rim - otherwise in fine condition. Regina Art Pottery Factory: Although the company was founded in 1898, they did not begin producing the world-famous matte glaze art pottery (the so-called Gouda earthenware) Capriolus contemporary ceramics until 1917. The Art Nouveau style: The organic, undulating lines of the leaves and flowers, and the elegant lettering of the word 'REGINA' are typical of the heyday of the early Gouda earthenware industry shortly after the First World War. The initials W.B.: This logo refers directly to the founders Wan der Want and Barras Capriolus contemporary ceramics. From the late 1920s and the decades that followed, the factory's logos and styles changed to sleeker Art Deco designs and more modern trademarks.
This impressive XL wall plate was manufactured by the Regina Art Pottery Factory in Gouda during the first quarter of the twentieth century. The object represents the refined aesthetic of Art Nouveau, characterized by flowing lines and organic motifs typical of early Dutch decorative earthenware. The plate is crafted from high-quality ceramics and features a rich, multicolored glaze. The design displays a central green field with the factory inscription, surrounded by stylized floral elements in shades of purple, brown, and black. The reverse is finished with a dark glaze and retains the original hanging mechanism, underscoring the authentic production method of this period. The object is in good condition consistent with its age of over a century. The glaze has retained its original luster and deep color intensity, contributing to the historical character of the piece. This decorative wall plate forms a striking historical accent in a classic or eclectic interior. It presents itself excellently as a standalone piece of art on the wall or as part of a broader collection of Dutch earthenware.
