Red bowl from the "birch bark" series by Ravelli. 1960s, rare.
The design was commissioned by Pesch & Co Denkavit in the early 1960s. The bowls and vases are hand-thrown and covered with an engobe layer that, when processed, resembles birch bark.
Brothers Dick and Jaap Ravelli founded the decorative arts studio Ravelli & Co in 1942. In 1944, it officially became a pottery, producing both casting and throwing for household pottery. Ravelli achieved international success in the 1950s. In the 1960s, the focus shifted to vases and bowls. In the 1970s, the company was closed.
